At moments such as these,
at twilight, in muted light,
in the autumnal forest,
leaf litter underfoot
Silencing my steps…
At moments like these,
a mere walk in the woods
becomes a pilgrimage,
brushing, fleetingly,
against time,
Kissing eternity…
THE POEM: Raymond A. Foss created this beautiful poem and posted it on his site October 25 shortly after I tweeted the photo. Ray is a husband, pastor spouse, father of three daughters, Christian poet, photographer, author, former town manager, attorney, accountant, and April fool. 🙂 Thank you, Raymond!
THE PHOTO IMAGE: I took this picture while walking along this old rutted road that leads to Lost Lake, a swamp-lake in the Kawartha Region of Ontario. I’d had a hectic day with some dark frustrations and I just had to get away. This quiet gravel-dirt road is a sanctuary tucked away from human noises; a place where all I hear is the wind rustling through the trees, the fluting twitter of birds, and my boots crunching and shuffling on the gravel and strewn dead leaves. The walk is like a long deep breath that centres me and calms my soul. It was approaching the day’s end, when the sun’s rays slanted in through the beeches and aspens like liquid gratitude…
